Distorted results

We want reliable results in Google Analytics(GA). Sometimes we see spikes in visitors and assume the new marketing techniques are working well.

But if we look a little further, we see that the new visitors are not at all coming from that new position in Google or from the new ad on Facebook.

Het blijkt spam te zijn. Bij het verwijzingsverkeer zie je de onderstaande bots. Dit zijn de bots die langs komen op Monkey Vision.
Spam in Google analytics

How do we get rid of it?

  • Login your GA account and then go to 'admin' -> 'All Filters'.

Are you bothered by more spam sources? Then you can add these as well. Place a '/' before each '.'. You can read more about this under "Learn more about regular expressions". If you suffer from a huge number of spam sources, you will have to add multiple filters, because Google Analytics supports a maximum of 255 characters in the Filter Pattern field. As a result, you have to divide the spam list into multiple filters. Start selecting a filter again and perform all the steps with the patterns listed below.
Notice. This new filter only works with new traffic. So existing/old traffic from these spam sources will still show up in your website statistics.
Unfortunately, new spam sources are constantly being added; make sure you add new spam traffic to the spam filter immediately. Work with a clean and reliable GA.

Filtering your own IP

Besides spam, your own website visits often pollute the statistics. Therefore, make sure that your own ip and possibly the ip of your office are also filtered out of the results. You can do this in the same way.
